The 25th anniversary of the National Research and Development Institute for Biological Sciences (INCDSB) was marked by the BioHub 2022 International Conference "Biological Sciences - Challenges and Perspectives."

The first day of the event took place at the Romanian Academy, Library Hall, on 15 November. The event was attended by researchers from the institute and the academic community, directors and researchers from other national research institutes, university professors and economic partners. INCDSB was joined at this event by prominent personalities such as Conf. Dr. Sorin - Valentin Costreie, State Counsellor for Education and Research in the Prime Minister's Chancellery, Andrei Alexandru, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digitization, Acad. Nicolae Zanfir - Vice-President of the Romanian Academy, Prof. Dr. Lawrence Banks - Director General ICGEB - International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology - Italy, Acad. Nicolae Panin - President of the Geonomic Sciences Section of the Romanian Academy, Acad. Dumitru Murariu - President of the National Commission for Antarctic Research of the Romanian Academy.

The event was opened by Prof. Dr. Mihaela Păun, Director General of the Institute, who presented to the guests the history of the institution and the opportunities that made it flourish. Prof. Dr. Păun paid tribute to the former directors general, the presidents of the Scientific Council, the researchers with outstanding results, the mentors and last but not least, the staff who have been with the institute over the years. The Director-General also presented the current situation, as well as the Institute's strategic approach and development directions.

During the speeches, the guests highlighted the tenacity and involvement of the INCDSB institute in top projects, emphasizing the role of the institute as leader in the consortium for the implementation of the major project - International Centre for Advanced Studies on River - Sea Systems "DANUBIUS - RI". Thus, conf. Dr. Sorin - Valentin Costreie, highlighted the efforts of the institute, together with the partners of the DANUBIUS - RI project, for the realization of the second major research project of Romania.

In the second part of the day, Dr. Simona Carmen Lițescu - Filipescu, President of the Scientific Council, awarded the INCDSB prizes for the best researchers of the year 2021, highlighting the interest for research - innovation in strategic areas, as well as for supporting young researchers at the beginning of their careers. Dr. Manuela Elisabeta Sidoroff presented the achievements of the Department of Arctic and Arctic Research, established in 2014, and awarded diplomas of merit, to expeditioners who participated in the Antarctic Expeditions (ROICE).

The following days, the event took place at the headquarters of the National Research and Development Institute for Biological Sciences, with presentations dedicated to the dissemination of results in the biological sciences.
