2018 SESSION OF THE ICGEB BOARD OF GOVERNORS

From 9 to 11 May 2018, the twenty-fourth session of the ICGEB Governors' Board 2018 - International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology - was held in Trieste, Italy.

Board of Governors sessions are held annually, bringing together government representatives from more than 60 member countries to promote sustainable global science, technology and innovation in biotechnology.

The representative of Romania on the Board of Governors of ICGEB, who attended the session, was Dr Manuela Elisabeta Sidoroff, Director General of the National Institute for Research and Development in Biological Sciences.

The work of the ICGEB Board of Governors session was conducted according to the agenda adopted at its opening (Report of the Director-General on the Centre's Programme, Report of the Director-General on Scientific Research in Trieste, Cape Town and New Delhi, Collaborative Relations between Member Countries, Collaborative Relations with other Multilateral Development Organisations, Governing Bodies - Scientific Advisory Board - SAC, Overall Programme and Budget for 2018, External Auditor's Report, Miscellaneous, and Preparation of the 25th Board Session).

Under item 6 of the agenda, members of the Scientific Advisory Board of the ICGEB were elected.

The Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) is composed, as of this session by vote of the Board, of twelve eminent scientists active on the international scene in the life sciences. Members of the Board are elected by the Board of Governors for a three-year renewable term.

On the proposal of Dr. Manuela Elisabeta Sidoroff, Prof. Univ. Dr. Carmen Socaciu, in recognition of her outstanding leadership skills and tireless efforts in addressing and raising the awareness of the scientific community on plant biotechnology issues.

Prof. Dr. Carmen Socaciu, Professor at the University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Cluj Napoca, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, was elected to the Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) of ICGEB, an outstanding result of Romania's activity within ICGEB.
