On 09 April 2025, our institute received with joy the visit of the students of the 2nd grade from the Secondary School "Mircea Sântimbreanu", accompanied by their teacher, within the activities organised on the occasion Green Week. The visit took place in the context of the collaboration between the school and the institute, which supports education through hands-on experiences and scientific discovery.

Activities in the Bioanalysis Department

Under the guidance of researchers from the department, students participated in demonstration experiments on the colour change of pH indicators in acidic and alkaline media. Three different chemical indicators were used: Methyl Orange (yellow in alkaline medium and red in acidic medium), Phenophthalein (carmine red in alkaline medium and colourless in acidic medium) and Bromothymol Blue (blue in basic medium and yellow in acidic medium). Students carried out a practical application in which they observed how bromothymol blue can detect the presence of carbon dioxide. Thus, by blowing into an alkaline solution containing this indicator, they observed the colour change from blue to straw-yellow, signalling acidification due to the dissolution of CO₂ from respiration.

Activities in the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology (BCM)

Students had the opportunity to observe mites extracted from bird feathers under a microscope and learnt about their importance in ecology and maintaining biodiversity. They also examined the structure of heart tissue under the microscope and understood its role in the functioning of the heart and the dynamics of the circulatory system. A particularly attractive activity was the demonstration of real-time 3D printing, where pupils witnessed the creation of an anatomical model of an ear, thus understanding the applicability of modern technologies in biomedicine.
