Integrated system for monitoring and bioremediation of metal/radionuclides contaminated area

The main idea of the project relies on the development of a new integrated system for monitoring and bioremediation of metal/radionuclides from contaminated areas which means a complex approach of the subject based on the versatility of micro-organisms (Pseudomonas sp. and Clostridium sp. strains) to act both as effective bio-catalists on radionuclids and heavy metals (metabolic) transformation and as bio-recognition element for the two classes of contaminants. The project proposes as monitoring devices an array of electrochemical (enzymatic and micro-organism based) biosensors, selective and sensitive for heavy metals and radionuclides.
Envisaged heavy metals are copper, lead, mercury, cadmium, zinc, while envisaged radionuclides are uranium, radon, and thorium.
